Latest News! The opening of classes on August 22, 2022 is final; it is a stressful school year

The opening of classes is the hot issue for this month of July, in which many teachers are surprised by the early start of classes. Many teachers proposed to VP Sara Duterte to move the opening of classes to the middle of September because the teachers have no vacation at all. Teachers continue to report to school to complete Form 137, report cards, SF1, SF5, and IPCRF/RPMS.

The opening of classes is so close that the teachers did not recharge due to being out of rest. Therefore, before the opening of classes, DepEd should consider the work of teachers. Teachers’ vacation is the only time for them to relax and process all the needs of the classroom. They have so many things to do during their vacation.

Teachers have no sick leave. If they get sick, they need to be absent from their duties. Teachers’ work is not the same as other professionals’ work. They have so many things to do because teachers are flexible. Teaching students is not easy. Different behaviors of students are managed by the teachers. So the opening of classes should be extended even in the middle of September.

The new Secretary of Education, Sara Duterte-Carpio, said the final opening of the class will be on August 22, 2022, for the school year 2022-2023. Several groups of teachers have called on the department to arrange the opening of classes to give teachers enough rest, as most of them will still be making reports from the previous school year.

It was approved by the President, so we will continue it, “said Sec. Sara Duterte-Carpio. The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) has requested that classes open in September so that teachers can recharge and prepare for the next school year. The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) also urged the department to consider giving teachers enough time to rest before class is scheduled to open.

Since the decision of VP Sara is final, the opening of classes will be on August 22, 2022, so teachers have to accept that they will not enjoy vacation. Teachers should follow what the school calendar sets. Even if the government did not consider the said request, teachers’ request for a salary increase this year should be considered and approved. – Doki | Helpline PH
