US Provides Educational Training for English Teachers in the Philippines
The United States is currently conducting an intensive Educational Training for English Teachers, comprising a series of training seminars for over 100 English educators across the Philippines. The workshops, scheduled until May 26, are designed to enhance these educators’ teaching methods and techniques for English language instruction.
These Educational Training for English Teachers workshops leverage a “train-the-trainer” syllabus, curated exclusively for the Philippines by US-sponsored English Language Specialists, Donna Brinton and Jan Frodesen. The program is projected to reach an expansive audience, potentially benefiting over 7,000 teachers and 250,000 students in the Philippines, as it empowers participants to share their new knowledge with their local colleagues.
The program further provides resources, strategies, and techniques for the attendees, enabling them to share their learnings with fellow teachers in their home communities. The initial two weeks of the Educational Training for English Teachers saw participation from over 60 educators from various academic institutions in Mindanao, including public high schools in Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. In addition, twelve educators from the State Department’s English Access Microscholarship Program, including participants from Fiji, attended the training in Manila.
The final set of workshops, to be held from May 22 to 26 in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, will include over 50 teachers from various branches of Palawan State University. MaryKay Carlson, the US Ambassador to the Philippines, met the workshop participants on May 17 to reinforce the US’s commitment to cooperate with Philippine partners in advancing high-quality education, especially in language learning.
“A robust education system is the cornerstone of prosperity. We eagerly await the positive results of this Educational Training for English Teachers, as dedicated Filipino educators impart these methods to their peers and students,” Carlson commented.
For these workshops, the US government has collaborated with the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, the non-government organization Synergeia Foundation, Inc., and Palawan State University.
