Negros Occidental Enhances E-Learning: Grade 7 Students Receive Tablets | Project BONG
The provincial government of Negros Occidental has recently provided about 850 computer tablets to students of Grade 7 at Manapla National High School (MNHS), bolstering their technological learning capabilities.
MNHS serves as the inaugural institution in the northern region for the rollout of Project BONG – “Bata ang Ona sa Negros” – a program named in honor of Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson.
The Department of Education Schools Division of Negros Occidental’s (DepEd-NegOcc) information officer, Ian Arnold Arnaez, communicated on Tuesday that Project BONG is an ongoing initiative, and the future will see more schools equipped with learning tablets for their students.
Previously, the pioneering schools to receive these E-learning tools were located in the southern town of Cauayan, receiving their devices in November of the preceding year.
Governor Lacson, alongside Manapla Mayor Manuel Escalante III and DepEd-NegOcc Schools Division Superintendent Anthony Liobet, spearheaded the tablet distribution event on Monday. During this event, Lacson highlighted the essential requirement to ensure all students obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in today’s technologically advanced world.
As such, Lacson emphasized that alongside offering superior public education, it is crucial to equip learners adequately, hence the decision to distribute tablets to the students.
Lacson urged students to maintain their focus and take their education seriously, while Liobet expressed gratitude for the provincial government’s commitment to meeting the educational needs of the students. He encouraged the students to maximize their tablet use, to take care of the device, and to explore and learn effectively.
Cauayan town has also benefitted from this initiative, with more than 1,400 pupils from Grades 1 to 3 receiving these devices. These were used in a program named “Letters and Numbers on the MoVE: Mobile Videos for Education: A Gateway for Literacy and Numeracy.” This program was designed to enhance teaching and learning processes, prioritizing each learner’s growth in literacy, numeracy, and technology proficiency.
