Senator Calls for Summer Break Amid Heat Concerns

Senator Christopher ‘Bong’ Go believes that it is time to consider the return of summer vacation for students during the months of March, April, and May.

Go explained that the increasing heat during these months, partly due to climate change, could potentially lead to poor health for students.

The senator emphasized that during such hot weather, students may find it difficult to focus on their studies as they are not comfortable due to the intense heat in their classrooms.

The lawmaker also stressed that the results of a survey involving 11,000 teachers should not be ignored, where 67 percent of public school teachers reported experiencing unbearable heat in the classrooms.

Alongside this, Go pointed out that not all classrooms currently have air conditioning units or even electric fans.

Meanwhile, the senator is confident that the Department of Education and the Department of Tourism are already studying an effective system for the school calendar.

This is because tourism is also affected when students still have classes during the summer, when most people should be visiting tourist destinations.
