The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the crucial role medical frontliners play in our society. As a token of gratitude, the BPI Foundation, the social development arm of the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), has launched the PAGPUPUGAY Scholarship Program. This initiative aims to provide financial assistance to the surviving family members of medical frontliners who either lost their lives or contracted COVID-19 while performing their duties. If you are a qualified applicant, read on to learn more about the eligibility criteria, benefits, and application process for this scholarship opportunity.

Eligibility Criteria

The PAGPUPUGAY Scholarship is open to qualified next of kin of the following medical frontliners who passed away or contracted COVID-19 in the line of duty:

  1. Doctors
  2. Nurses
  3. Medical technologists
  4. Community health workers
  5. Administrative, utility, and support services personnel in healthcare facilities

For married frontliners, priority beneficiaries are their children. For single frontliners, beneficiaries can be next of kin up to the 3rd degree of consanguinity.

PAGPUPUGAY Scholarship Program

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must:

  1. Be a college student (1st year to 4th or 5th year) in any college or university in the Philippines
  2. Have and maintain a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 85% or its equivalent or meet the university standard
  3. Not be a beneficiary of any other academic assistance program

Requirements

  3. If the medical frontliner is deceased: Affidavit of Endorsement and of No Objection (Next of Kin) (https://bit.ly/2022Affidavit-NextOfKin)
  4. If the medical frontliner is still living: Affidavit of Endorsement and of No Objection (Frontliner) (https://bit.ly/2022Affidavit-Frontliner)
  5. Endorsement letter, duly signed by the authorized representative of the hospital or health care facility where the medical front liner was assigned
  6. Original or authenticated copies of the following:
  7. Course curriculum
  8. If a child of the medical front liner, NSO-authenticated birth certificate of the applicant
  9. If a sibling of the medical front liner, NSO-authenticated birth certificate of the applicant and the front liner showing their common parents
  10. If a nephew/niece of the medical front liner, birth certificate of the applicant, together with the birth certificate of the applicant’s parent and the medical front liner showing their common parents
  11. If a widow/widower of the medical front liner, NSO-authenticated marriage certificate of the medical front liner.
  12. PRC ID or License ID of the medical front liner
  13. If medical front liner is deceased, death certificate of the medical front liner – indicating COVID-19 or complications due to COVID-19 as cause of death
  14. If medical front liner is still living, medical certificate of the medical front liner – indicating COVID-19 in the findings
  15. Latest ITR of parents / guardian of the applicant
  16. Latest previous academic year Transcript of Records or Copy of Grades
  17. Certificate of Good Moral Character
  18. Only the applications with complete requirements will be processed.
  19. Scanned copies of application form and other supporting documents may be submitted. Hard copies will be required once applicants are selected for the scholarship.

Scholarship Benefits

Under the PAGPUPUGAY Scholarship Program, each scholar will receive a maximum of Php 100,000 per academic year as financial assistance to cover tuition fees and other miscellaneous expenses. The scholarship fund will be paid directly to BPI Foundation’s partner school.

Application Process

Interested and qualified students can apply for the PAGPUPUGAY Scholarship Program through one of BPI’s partner schools, which can be found in the list below. If your school is not on the list, please contact the BPI Foundation directly at bpifoundation@bpi.com.ph.

Partner schools will review PAGPUPUGAY Scholarship applications and provide BPI Foundation with a list of three shortlisted candidates. Successful candidates will be chosen based on their academic prowess and financial need. BPI Foundation will notify the selected students of their acceptance into the PAGPUPUGAY Scholarship Program through the schools and email addresses provided on the application form.
