DepEd reiterates confidential funds for protection of learners
Education spokesperson lawyer Michael Poa reiterated that the confidential funds requested by the Department of Education will be used to protect learners.
Poa said that the request for confidential funds followed the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Joint Memorandum Circular 2015-01.
“The confidential funds will be used, as already stated, for the protection of our learners. In the past few weeks, reports of sexual grooming cases, sexual abuse, and cases of drugs being sold in schools whether from outside school premises or inside, as well as cases of criminal activities in school – that is why this confidential fund is vital,” Poa noted.
He explained that proper surveillance and intelligence are needed against those who may encourage learners to take part in criminal activities.
“In DepEd, quality basic education is not the only problem we are facing, but also the problem of ensuring our learners’ safety against forms of abuse and criminal activity,” he added.
