List of schools suspending in-person classes due to ongoing hot weather
The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines has permitted schools to suspend in-person classes due to the ongoing heatwave affecting the country. DepEd encourages school authorities to implement alternative delivery modes to ensure the well-being of students and staff. The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) has called for a return to the previous school calendar, arguing that public schools are not equipped to handle high temperatures during the dry season. The issue gained attention after 83 students were hospitalized for heat exhaustion during fire and earthquake drills in Cabuyao City, prompting calls for a return to the previous school calendar and the reinstatement of the April-May summer vacation.
DepEd’s distance learning modalities include:
- Modular Distance Learning – Involves the use of self-learning modules (SLMs) that learners can study on their own at their own pace.
- Online Distance Learning – Involves the use of digital technologies and online platforms such as DepEd Commons, Google Classroom, and other Learning Management Systems (LMS).
- Radio-Based Instruction – Involves the use of radio broadcasts to deliver educational content to learners.
- TV-Based Instruction – Involves the use of television broadcasts to deliver educational content to learners.
- Blended Learning – A combination of two or more distance learning modalities to deliver educational content to learners.
There will be no in-person classes in the following areas and schools
