DepEd Stops Search for Best Implementers of “Brigada Eskwela”
The Department of Education (DepEd) decided not to look for the best “Brigada Eskwela” performers from last year. DepEd Undersecretary Revsee Escobedo changed the rules for the program before the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
The old rules and selection criteria will not be used anymore. School heads and teachers won’t get special certificates for doing a great job. These certificates used to help them get promotions and better performance reviews.
Now, all primary and secondary schools that joined “Brigada Eskwela” last year will get a certificate. This is for following the program and working with partners to get schools ready for class.
DepEd says school superintendents can still choose how to recognize schools that did a great job with “Brigada Eskwela.” This year, two special awards were planned but are not happening now: the Brigada Pagbasa Advocacy Award and the Functional Home Learning Spaces Award.
DepEd hasn’t explained why they stopped looking for the best “Brigada Eskwela” schools. Last year, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte shared new guidelines for the program. These guidelines aimed to get communities more involved and help students do better in school.
