Today’s Gospel Reflection: Luke 17:11-19

Gospel: Luke 17:11-19

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus asked, “Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner? “Then he said to him, “Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.”

Luke 17:11-19

Reflection:

Our gospel for today is from Luke 17:11-19 which is about “gratitude”. Yes, the gospel is a mirror to our present situations when we are living in a world of pleasure.

In the gospel from Luke 17:11-19, Jesus healed 10 lepers but only one return back to give thanks to Him. The most intriguing part is that the leper that returned was a Samaritan. This Samaritan is a foreigner yet he was the one who return and praise Jesus.

It is a clear manifestation that people tend to ask for help from Jesus when they are in need. Yet, when they are in good faith they tend to forget to thank God for the blessings. Let us try to think if we ever prostrate ourselves in gratitude in front of our anyone.

In the gospel from Luke 17:11-19, we are the lepers who asked for help. Jesus always gave us never ending help in times of trouble yet we forget to give thanks. Gratitude is something that is not asked from us. We must know when to show gratitude of the help given to us.

Oftentimes I know for myself that I always become someone like the 9 lepers who forgot to thank Jesus. Yet, during the days when I am down the one I ask for help is Him. When the blessing arrives, I forgot to say a simple thank you Jesus for it.

Even so, I am trying my best not to be like the 9 lepers who left without giving thanks. I always look to myself and make sure I utter some thank you to my Redeemer. This too should be the goal of everybody.

Luke 17:11-19 is a reminder that no matter how small or big our favor asked from God we must always be grateful. Each time we show gratitude is one step closer to God. Clea | Helpline PH
