DepEd explains order on automatic class suspension

The Department of Education explained the implementation of automatic cancellation of classes in schools once storm signals are up.

There are cases when classes are suspended – usually either due to a national holiday or to calamities or natural events.

Ahead of a storm entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the authorities releases details indicating the storm signals in the affected areas. It also paves the way for the evacuation and the cancellation of classes and work if needed.

According to DepEd, the Department Order No. 37 or the automatic cancellation of classes was yet to be submitted to the Office of the National Administrative Registrar (ONAR) of the University of the Philippines Law Center. The order was only posted as an advance copy for the institutions with an electronic signature.

Under the said order which the department decided to take down while the requirements of ONAR have yet to be completed, a DepEd automatic class suspension is set on public schools when the local government unit (LGU) is under at least typhoon signal No. 1.
