Tips for students attending face-to-face classes for the first time

Attention parents!

The Department of Education released tips to avoid first-week anxieties.

DepEd shared tips online for parents whose kids are attending in-person classes for the first time.

Re-introduce or establish a routine

According to DepEd, because of online classes, the daily routine of kids became more flexible.

Establishing a new routine might be helpful but, at the same time, it shouldn’t be conducted the moment they start attending face-to-face classes. In order to ease kids into this new routine, start it before they officially go to class so you can condition your child and train him/her for it.

Place huge importance on explaining health standards

Teach them how to use their face masks, how to wear them properly, and make sure to pack an extra for when they need to change it. Apart from these, discuss with them social distancing protocols and proper washing of hands to keep them safe from the virus and avoiding its spread.

Be understanding and patient with your kid

According to DepEd, separation anxiety occurs when kids spend time apart from their parents or loved ones. This causes sadness and/or distress as well as tantrums.

As a parent, it is important that you keep calm while dealing with your child. Try to understand, listen to them, and at the same time, explain to them what is happening.

Give them an idea of what occurs during in-person learning

As this is their first time, it is understandable that they do not have a single clue as to what to expect. As a parent, guide them through this by informing them of their school schedules, let them know who their teachers are, what classroom they have to go to, and things like that.

Encourage them to socialize with other students

It is crucial for your kids to learn how to socialize as well and build friendships that can last for a long time. So encourage them to make friends while reminding them of the safety precautions.
