Lawmaker pushes free education for Senior Citizen
Makati City 2nd District Rep. Luis Jose Angel Campos Jr. filed a measure seeking to give free education for senior citizens in all public schools.
In filing House Bill 1290 or the proposed Free Education for Seniors Act, Campos explained some senior citizens failed to complete their education.
He further explained it is the country’s duty to give its citizens access to quality education regardless of age.
The measure exempts senior citizens from paying tuition fees in any public school or university.
Senior citizen availing of the exemption are still required to follow admission requirements of the school or university but no extra academic requirements.
“Advance age should not be a reason to deny a person his or her basic right to quality education,” Campos said.
