DepEd calls for private donations amid school supplies price increase
The Department of Education is calling for private donations amid the high prices of school supplies now.
DepEd Spokesperson Michael Poa said the private sector can donate “learners’ kits” to schools through the Brigada Eswkela program.
“We are hoping with the Brigada Eskwela, matulungan tayo ng private sector organizations or donors or volunteers para makapagbigay ng kits, lalong-lalo na sa learners natin na wala talagang perang pambili ng school supplies,” Poa said.
The high school supplies prices now are financially challenging for a lot of parents.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently expressed that they will be reviewing the suggested retail prices (SRPs) for the school supplies.
DTI cited that the current SRP is helpful to the consumers but they lack further details like the specification of the items and the quality.
The opening of the school year 2022-2023 is on August 22. Blended learning will still be implemented until October 31. Schools are mandated to resume the face-to-face classes by November.
