‘Huwag pagurin ang mga guro, lighten their workload’ – Gatchalian
Senator Win Gatchalian is asking the new administration to lessen the workload of public school teachers so they can focus on their teaching duties.
Gatchalian pointed that lightening the workload of teachers affects the quality and delivery of education.
“Sa pagtataguyod ng kapakanan ng ating mga guro, dapat tiyakin nating nailalaan nila ang mas maraming oras para tutukan ang kanilang mga mag-aaral,” Gatchalian said.
“Mahalagang pagsikapan nating maalis na sa mga guro ang mga trabahong walang direktang kinalaman sa kanilang pagtuturo, lalo na’t ang makikinabang dito ay ang ating mga mag-aaral,” he added.
Gatchalian proposes the immediate release of funds for the 5,000 Administrative Officers (AO) in public elementary and high schools under the Department of Education (DepEd). DepEd has already requested the release of these funds from the DBM.
Gatchalian urged the DepEd to adopt the proposal of PIDS to conduct evidence-based studies on teacher workload.
He said this is to rationalize the job functions of teachers, allow to balance their workload, and give more of their time to improve learner outcomes.
