Teachers Urge DepEd to Look at the Crushing Scenario of School Devastated by Typhoon Odette: How can they can stand anew amidst 100% implementation of face to face learning?

Teachers urge DepEd to try to look at the real scenario of the schools devastated by typhoon Odette. The said typhoon wreaked havoc in the selected areas more in the Visayas area. This devastation is very huge that until now teachers are still searching for ways and means.

It is now six (6) months since the typhoon yet the schools remained dilapidated. Sad to note that teachers are still not hearing from DepEd for any source of budget for the re-building. Teachers urge DepEd to try to look at their situations and lend a help to re-build their classrooms.

DepEd announced a 100% full implementation of the face to face classes and this becomes a problem. Schools with ruined classrooms need urgent solutions and huge budget. The question is where to get the budget for the repair and re-building purposes? Even with the help from various people and the LGU’s, still the help is insufficient.

According to the old teachers, this is not new in the DepEd society. It takes too long for a certain project to get fund appropriation. Most of the time, 2-3 years in the making or even much longer. This is the sad reality in our country.

This is the reason why teachers urge DepEd to try to look beyond. Teachers wanted DepEd officials to try to scatter and see the real situation. Let them know that teachers were the ones who are in the middle. The difficulties of re-building from scratch and trying to find funding. All the sacrifices that teachers have to undergo only to help their school.

In fact, this is not the work of the teachers. This is the responsibility of DepEd, of the government. It is not to compare our country from other countries but there should be interventions. If there’s a will, there’s a way. If there is no budget, the government can at least find solutions to it.
