Proven Truth: The bigger the school is, the chaotic the environment will be
Do you agree that the bigger the school is, the chaotic the environment will be? As for me, it is not only a rumor but it’s an actual experience. This is an actual experience in the public school. I can prove that the bigger the school is, the chaotic the environment will become. I will explain it further and give you my top observations of my experience.
Well, before I became a public school teacher I was an office employee is a state university in our place. Then I get promoted to being an instructor on a casual status. I handled both high school and college students back then and my life was peaceful and smooth.
Time comes that I was also offered an item in DepEd which I immediately grabbed. Knowing that the item is a permanent position so the turning point. DepEd assigned me in one of the national schools in far town away from mine.
My earliest months in that certain school was always shocking to me. The environment was very different from where I came from. It is very different from a university. In the university where I first worked with, even though teachers are many yet there was harmony. When I transferred in my school, it shocked me that the teachers were different.
So in the public schools, the version of a “big school” comprised of 50 teachers up and the school has both JHS and SHS. In our school, we have at least 52 employees including the non-teaching staffs. The bigger the school is, the chaotic the environment is going to be also.
Here are some instances to prove that the bigger the school is the chaotic the environment also will be:
- Teachers are all masters in their own field and they all wanted to get a promotion. My school is one of it. My co-teachers are aiming their way to the MT positions creating conflicts.
- My co-teachers fight in front of us their other junior teachers. They don’t control their emotions at all especially those teachers who are residents.
- Gossips and issues are everywhere and you can no longer tell which is true or not.
- Factions and divisions always prevail.
- Some teachers are manipulative enough and will use the weakness of the principal.
- I can say that most teachers don’t want to follow the principal at all. This is all because our principal has no sense of authority over his teachers.
Our school right now is very chaotic and toxic. Once an issue closes, another one will be born. Teachers are all faking their attitude towards one another. It is true that the bigger the school is, the chaotic the environment will become.
It is very tiring to work in a school where everybody is faking. I can no longer motivate myself in working with these kinds of people. Who is there to blame in this kind of mess we are in right now? The only thing I want now is to transfer school where I can be of value and where teachers are supporting. – Alec | Helpline PH
