In SY 2022–2023, the time frame for intervention and remediation will be extended: DepEd ensures that the world of learning will be successful
Intervention and remediation are significant steps that should be taken over time. Because this epidemic requires extensive preparation so that everyone will be safe for the upcoming school year. This planning will be centered on the school calendar of activities to ensure that students will be able to learn.
Based on the newly proposed school calendar, the Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday, April 19, said that it is aiming to begin the school year (SY) 2022-2023 by late August. The proposed school calendar covers an additional one week for intervention and remediation activities, as well as co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
The proposal is that we double time because it needs to have an additional period for our intervention and remediation activities. This is because the school calendar will be 215 days. It starts on August 22 and will end on July 7, 2023, said DepEd Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio in a press conference.
The proposed calendar likewise covers a two-week Christmas break beginning December 19, while the assumption of classes will be on Jan. 2, 2023. The end-of-school rites will be conducted from July 10 to July 14, 2023, while all remedial, enrichment or advanced classes during the summer period will be held from July 17, 2023, until August 26, 2023.
Meanwhile, San Antonio has stated that the SY 2023-2024 may begin on August 28, 2023. He added that DepEd will continue to implement a blended learning scheme—an approach to education that integrates traditional in-person learning and online learning.
The upcoming opening of classes will be a blended learning environment. Face-to-face learning will be expanded, but disruptions in the classroom in the form of activities are not permitted during the quarter’s ten (10) weeks, according to San Antonio.
DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones also highlighted that the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases requires physical reporting of teachers in areas under Alert Levels 1 and 2. However, Briones said, the department will not give up on other approaches to learning.
There will be 215 school days in total. The following are the number of school days every month:
