The critically-acclaimed 2013 film On the Job is heading to the small screen this month. Hailing from renowned local director Erik Matti, the upcoming show will be a serialized adaptation of the second installment of the film, On the Job: The Missing 8.
The sequel will first premiere at the upcoming prestigious Venice International Film Festival and will be the only Filipino-produced film in the festival lineup. On the Job: The Missing 8 will compete alongside 20 other international films premiering during the competition.
The film is set to premiere on September 10 and will then exclusively be available as a six-part series on HBO GO on September 12.
“I invite you all to see the premiere in Venice. Or stream it on #HBO either way, it gets the film seen by many worldwide which is really the point of making movies for,” Matti says in an article from Inquirer.
On the Job: The Missing 8 focuses on a new story set in the same world as the original film. The sequel, which is based on a true story, will feature new and notable homegrown actors like John Arcilla, Dennis Trillo, Christopher De Leon, Andrea Brilliantes, Vandolph Quizon, and more.
The film follows the story of radio journalist Sisoy (John Arcilla) and inmate turned hitman Roman (Dennis Trillo) as they start to question their loyalties to a certain politician when a group of 8 people suddenly go missing.
The HBO GO series will feature the remastered director’s cut of the original 2013 film as its first two episodes and will continue with the sequel for the remaining episodes.
